December Treats!

Hey! Just thought I would post some images of stuff I made these past weeks.
I feel bad posting about the chocolate ginger cookies (since nicole already went there!) but I did change up the recipe and made lil bites instead of cookies...next time i will give them less baking time. Though they are a lil tough, they are super tasty and great with morning coffee!

The Buckeyes! were awesome and so easy! I got the recipe from AT: The Kitchen. I couldn't find paraffin wax, but really people eat these things so fast I don't think you will miss it. I think I may try the PB Popcorn recipe too!

This past month I also made some ice creams (no pictures) but I highly recommend David Lebovitz's "The Perfect Scoop"! (THANK YOU SUSAN!)

I also added some pics of some crafts I got into...cuz hey, it's the season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS DOTMC!

English Muffins

Oh man, do you want something impressive to make? And do you have a day or two to spare? English muffins are your answer, friend. By some strange luck, I found both Rose Levy Beranbaum's Bread Bible and Cake Bible used for amazing prices at different stores in the same month. I'd never made one of her recipes before, but something about the way she writes them is so detailed and comforting. It inspires confidence.

Anyway, I've been wanting to try making English muffins (it's part of my recent infatuation with the founding fathers) (as you might have guessed if you got my DOTMC card) (don't ask). So I followed her instructions and got perfect results.

It is the longest and most detailed recipe ever, so I won't reproduce it here, but if you feel so inclined, pick up the Bread Bible. Here are some pics!

Washington Post Holiday Cookie Guide!

I feel sheepish about posting this, since I probably will not be able to make it to THE cookie party this Saturday, but I wanted to share with you bakers my favorite annual cookie guide. It's from the Washington Post and though I have never made anything from it (gasp!) I do love looking at the pics and the recipes, they always have something interesting (quinoa cheese crackers!!!!). So if anyone of you is looking for some quick inspiration, here you go!

FEAST YER EYES ON THESE

Oh golly have I been busy. Between home and pastry class, I spend my time mostly covered in sugar and flour. But I am taking a sec to wipe the dough from my eyes and share with you what I have been up to. Below you will find some of the delectables I mentioned
previously
I am most stoked on how they look all wrapped up, and the bark looks amazing!! I also made the marshmallows but forgot to photograph them...soon. Anyway next up are the peppermint patties. I got peppermint oil (not extract) and I must say the stuff is life changing. You use just a few drops and get none of the 'fake' that even pure extracts sometimes deliver due to over use, I think. A must for citrus oils!! Ok I will check in soon with more goodies...Susan's DOTM is in the mail!

THE SEASON IS THE REASON

Hello my darling bakers and sweet makers. While we are awaiting Agatha's Nov DOTMC which I assure you is on the way, with Susan's Dec offering close at it's heels, I am wondering if anyone has any delights tucked up their sleeves for holiday gift giving or for just keeping around the house-(tis the season and all that). Cos you know my sleeves are packed to the cuffs, stuff spilling out at the seams ready to be packed up and sent or brought around for merry munching. A sampling:

Toffee!
Peppermint patties!
Choc Gingerbread cookies!
IceBox Cookies!
Peppermint Bark!
Lollipops!

Of course we shall see how much of that I can actually make happen, but I am keeping a PMA (positive mental attitude, dude)....what are you guys doing???
XO
