WHEAT BREAD
I have been ill all weekend and finally felt like a human on Sunday so I decided to make some bread. The recipe is from Nick Malgieri. It was so easy and painless. I split it up into two baby loafs but If I had kept it at one it would be great for big ole sandwiches!

Rewind October: Loukoumades & Honey
Here is October's DOTM! Loukoumades & Honey! I'm sorry for the delay, I don't have an excuse...I procrastinated (and my sloppiness shows–I know: no tripod, no audio equipment, blahblahblah). But I am sending with the DVD a lil jar of "Honey from the 'Hood" - Greensgrow Farms, to sweeten you guys up.
Now, seriously you can complain about my editing and how boring this thing is, but you try chopping up your cute parents–it's not easy!

BANANA CARAMEL CAKE
While we are waiting for our Fall DOTM recipes, I thought I would share this Banana Caramel Cake.
This recipe for is from Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook, it's the baking book I go to most often. I have made it once before without the Marscapone frosting, I used Buttercream instead and it's a good thing cos' I had forgot to add sugar! It was still so good, I swear it. So last night I made this for Marty's 35th. He was raised on banana pudding, and banana is his absolute FAVE. I am including a scan of the recipe from the book but my scanner is a small home model so, it's not very clear. For the Marscapone Frosting:
one lb Marscapone Cheese
1 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar ( I used less)
Whip all ingredients until soft peaks form.
The one thing that went awry, was I think I over whipped. My frosting came out without the glossy shine, I was expecting. I drizzled the top with my stash of homemade caramel sauce from my earlier caramel experiments. This cake is a show stopper.

Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie!
So a couple weeks ago I made Simply Recipes Easy Pumpkin Ice Cream, but because I didn't add any Brandy I think it got too hard ( I may have also over processed it in the ice cream machine, since I do have the habit of turning it on and walking away). My friend Liz recommended making a pie out of the ice cream by pouring it (or spackling in this case) into a crust. So I did that and went a step further and melted some chocolate pieces for the top. It came out quite well, but for the top which was way too thick and hard. Sorta like Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream but not mashed up. ha!

PIE ME
Okay so it's that time again. PIE TIME. Our own Kat made a pumpkin pie last night, (pictured) in honor of OBAMA, (whoo!). It was delish! It looks normal enough right, wrong! She used maple in it. Maybe she will post the recipe...(Ahem...cough) If you have a twist on a pumpkin pie, share it with us! What are your favorite ways to trick out pumpkin pie? Last thanksgiving, I made one that featured cayenne and sugared pepitas. Let's reinvent the wheel on this shall we?
