Vanilla bean question...

Does anyone have a view on vanilla bean origin? I've been pretty consistently wedded to Madagascar beans as they always seem to be much more fragrant than Tahitian beans. When I was in LA, I could occasionally find some Mexican beans which were as good as Madagascar ones, but much cheaper...

Anyone else have a view?


  1. I have heard good things about French Polynesian but have never seen it..I am using some mexican that Dawn (of this club) brought me back from there, it's pretty good..I am gonna ask around

  2. I vaguely remember an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown talks about vanilla beans coming from the flowering parts of certain orchid plants. But maybe that was just a weird sexual innuendo dream I had some night, as I find him adorably entertaining and educational.
